We are a charitable association dedicated to the development of people in spirit, mind and body as well as the improvement of local, national and international communities.


YMCA Fitness Leadership Certification Program

The YMCA developed the first nationally recognized fitness leadership program in 1974 and has continued to train thousands of fitness leaders ever since.

The YMCA Fitness Leadership Program is an accredited course and it was used as one of the models to develop the guidelines for the Fitness Leadership Model implemented by the National Fitness Leadership Advisory Council (NFLAC).

As a YMCA Fitness Leader, you can build self-esteem in your participants and provide service to your community.

The program offers:
·   Strong values
·   Highly qualified fitness professionals as mentors
·   A supportive environment to achieve your professional goals
·   YMCA certification, recognized at a national and international level

Program Modules:

1. Basic Theory
Designed for fitness enthusiasts that are 16 years of age or older, this course is the first step toward becoming a group fitness, weight training, aquafit or personal training instructor. Topics include anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, nutrition and weight management.
·   Dates
·   Saturdays, October 17, 24, 31 and November 7, 9:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
·   Thursdays, October 22, 29 and November 5, 12, 6:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.
·   Cost: $230 (plus GST)
·   Location: Rhodes Wellness College, 280-1125 Howe Street, Vancouver, B.C.

2. Group Land Fitness
This course will help develop skills on how to design a safe, well-rounded group fitness class. Different styles of classes will be examined.
·   Pre-requisite: Basic Theory
·   Dates: Saturdays and Sundays, November 21, 22, 28, 29
·   Times: 9:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
·   Cost: $135 (plus GST)
·   Location: Langara Family YMCA, 282 West 49th Avenue Vancouver, B.C.

3. Individual Conditioning
This course is for anyone interested in becoming a weight-training instructor. It is recognized by BCRPA and includes exercise training principles, program design, equipment use and exercise selection.
·   Pre-requisite: Basic Theory
·   Dates: Saturdays, February 6, 13, 20, 27
·   Times: 9:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
·   Cost: $195 (plus GST)
·   Location: Langara Family YMCA, 282 West 49th Avenue Vancouver, B.C.
